I am a nearly 40 year old, wife, mother, south coast of England resident who loves to travel and wants to make a living doing something I love. I have always had jobs before and never had an answer to the age old question of "what do you want to do when you grow up?". Now I am lucky enough to be in a position where I can travel and talk to others about it.
When I decided to write a blog, I had a few ideas about things to write. Mostly about things to do with being a parent and school as these were the biggest things in my life at that moment. They are both eye opening experiences every day. But what should I call it that is individual and connected to a niche but generic enough so that I can write about anything and everything? (As the advice columns tell you to do).
Making decisions is not something that comes very naturally to me. In a world when growing up as a millennial means that the world is at your feet, you can do anything with your life. For some it's very freeing "I can do anything- WOW!" But if you are like me then it's more "I can do anything - that's too big, how do I choose?"
I struggle to make decisions about most things, which holiday shall we go on, do I want this item of clothing or not or even just what shall we eat for dinner tonight? Mostly my indecision is about a silly first world problem but for me they can be crippling. Making a choice feels like I am committing my whole being to something. What if it doesn't work out? What if it is the wrong decision? What if I let someone down? What if it's a waste of time or money? What if, what if, what if???
My husband is very patient with me but when I've been struggling to make a choice for a while he often uses the same phrase.......Just Pick One! I have decent instincts as it turns out but sometimes I need the push from someone else to actually decide on something. I needed to just pick any name for the blog as it's usually the content that's the main focus anyhow. I decided to use his words. I know a name is important, but to get going on this new hobby / adventure I've decided to keep it simple and Just Pick One.
As a big believer in trying new things, especially as you get older, I wanted a slice of the YouTube pie. I am a life long YouTube fan, I watch something on YouTube every day, whether that for fun watching my favourite travel channels all the way to "how to" videos on editing software. And now shorts has made it possible to just doom scroll the night away with all sorts of random things.
My channel came about after I created the blog JustPickOneUK in February as I could use the content from there to create content on YouTube. I was writing about whatever I wanted and I thought I could translate it to YouTube well enough but I didn't have a fixed idea in the very beginning - I didn't decide on my niche - and I am still finding my feet. Ideally I would like to earn a living from making my videos so if anyone knows of a sponsor for a nearly 40 something lady with a travel based channel then let me know.
